The photos in Adolescence were produced by 8th-graders participating in the Photo Project at the Driscoll Elementary School in Brookline, Massachusetts. These teens joined in an after-school activity to review the main points of the book, suggest scenarios for each chapter, pose for the pictures, and take the pictures.

Pia Schachter, a renowned photographer and mother of one of the students, instructed the kids in photographic technique and provided cameras and lighting. Carol Schraft, the school’s principal, facilitated and provided inspiration for the Photo Project. The Brookline Community Foundation supported the project with a grant to the parent Teacher Organization.
